Many people out there have only one goal: to find a significant other who will complete them and make their life whole spiritually and sexually. Of course, most aren't looking for "Miss right" or "Mr. Right" with this thought pattern.
But subconsciously, this is what's happening to most individuals. They want to get a significant other to feel better about themselves and to fill the void in their lives; otherwise, they will be miserable. It is precisely where the problem arises and what this article talks about: when you are looking for a significant other just because you need to feel complete. You may be doing it for the wrong reasons, and unwanted consequences can arise from that thought pattern.
The empty cup mentality is just simply the wrong way of thinking! No person should need or require a significant other to make them feel complete or whole. If you think having a significant other on your side will make you a better person, your priorities in life may be misplaced. You have to hammer this into your head: a significant other won't make you a different or better person. You will still be the same individual, with the same problems you started with, but only with a significant other.
When you face an empty hole, you can dive in and wallow in the past, making the gap even more significant and complex when you want to climb back out. The alternative would be to embrace yourself and explore new roads to forget the past and see where they will lead you to a brighter future.
The only person in the world who can change you and make a massive impact in your life is YOU. A significant other on your side can push you to become a better person, but only when you let them.
The idea of people coming together and completing each other sounds good, but at times can lead you down a dangerous path where you find yourself lost and in despair which can be self-defeating. For example, imagine your partner deciding to end the relationship. You feel incomplete and worthless without your life partner and start doubting your self-image and self-worth. As a result, people become obsessed with the idea that they must get their former partner back to feel complete again. This way of thinking ruins lives and can take a very dark turn when a person decides that life is not worth living without a significant other.
Most people with this mindset can change their lives and outcomes by changing the perception that they need someone else to make their lives whole. No one is forcing you to think what you think, just a desire to feel that way by assuming that society calls for it. So, if we can choose our thoughts and how we will view things, why choose to stay stuck? Why decide to hold on when you can as quickly choose to begin to let go?
Starting today, jump over that hole in your life instead of jumping in it and embrace that there is a WORLD waiting for you to enjoy.
